Good to know

Why your car goes on the bed

A conventional tow lifts two wheels and leaves the other two turning on the road. On an older rear-wheel-drive car that's usually harmless. On almost anything built in the last twenty years it isn't: front-wheel-drive gearboxes rely on the engine running to circulate oil, four-wheel-drive systems don't take kindly to axles turning at different speeds, and automatic transmissions are the least forgiving of the lot.

A flatbed tow truck sidesteps all of it. The bed tilts, the winch pulls the car up, and every wheel sits clear of the tarmac for the whole journey. Nothing turns, nothing wears, and the recovery costs you a callout fee rather than a gearbox. It's also the only sensible way to move an electric car — the motors on a driven axle generate current when the wheels spin, and towing an EV with its wheels down pushes charge back into a system that isn't expecting it.

Low cars, modified cars and anything with a front splitter get the same treatment for a different reason. Our tilt-and-slide drops to a shallow enough angle that the nose clears without scraping. If you've ever watched a bodykit get wrecked on a badly set-up ramp, you'll know why that's worth caring about.

Non-runners, tight access and vans

Plenty of our jobs aren't a car sitting on a hard shoulder waiting to be driven on. If the wheels won't turn at all — seized brakes, a snapped driveshaft, accident damage — the winch does the work and the vehicle comes up onto the bed on skates. Nothing has to roll for us to recover it.

Tight access is the other regular one. Multi-storey car parks, narrow terraced streets and rutted farm tracks all rule out a full-size transporter, and that's where a small tow truck earns its keep: enough bed for a car, a tight enough turning circle to get back out again. Mention the access when you call and we'll send something that fits.

We also do a steady amount of truck towing for vans, pickups and light commercials. Anything up to 3.5 tonnes goes on the same flatbed as a car — Transits, Sprinters, Lutons, tipper bodies. Above that you're into HGV territory and you want a heavy-recovery operator, and we'd rather tell you that on the phone than turn up with the wrong truck.

Local callouts and long-distance runs

We're family-run and we cover a lot of ground. Most of the work is close to home — the everyday breakdowns, the won't-starts, the flat battery in a supermarket car park. A good share of it isn't: a car bought at auction three counties away, a breakdown on holiday that needs bringing back, a vehicle moving between garages at opposite ends of the country.

That's the practical difference between us and a national tow truck company. A large operator subcontracts the long runs to whoever is nearest and takes a cut. We just drive them. One truck, one operator, one price agreed before we set off, and the same person on the phone at the end of the job as at the start.

Fully insured, available around the clock, and if a job genuinely isn't one for us we'll say so and point you at someone who can do it properly.

What actually happens when you call

Searching for a tow truck near me turns up a page of numbers, and a fair few of them are call centres. They'll take your details and sell the job on, which means you don't know who's coming, when they'll get there, or what it costs until the truck is already on scene.

Ours works differently because there's nobody in the middle. You ring 07900 902558 and speak to whoever is running the shift. Tell us where you've stopped, what you're driving and whether it still rolls — that's enough for us to know which truck to send and roughly how long it will take. You get a real ETA at that point, not a four-hour window.

Once we know where you are, the closest available truck sets off. Locally that's usually around thirty minutes. If you've broken down two hundred miles from home it'll be longer, and we'll say so honestly rather than leave you guessing on a hard shoulder. When the truck arrives your vehicle is winched on, strapped down and taken wherever you've asked — home, your own garage, a bodyshop or a dealer.

Quick answers

About this service

How do I find a recovery truck near me?

Call 07900 902558 and you've found one. We cover local callouts around the clock and run long-distance jobs nationwide, so wherever you've stopped, it's one number rather than a search through a dozen listings.

Why a flatbed tow truck rather than a conventional tow?

Flatbed towing lifts all four wheels clear of the road. On modern cars that protects the gearbox, the drivetrain and anything low at the front — and on an EV it's the only safe way to move the vehicle at all. It's why every job we can put on the bed goes on the bed.

Can you flat tow my car instead?

Flat towing — all four wheels rolling on the road behind another vehicle — is only safe on a small number of older, manual, rear-wheel-drive cars, and it's illegal on a motorway without a proper recovery setup. We don't offer it. The flatbed costs a little more and removes the risk entirely.

Do you run a rotator tow truck?

No. Rotators are heavy-recovery kit for overturned HGVs and lifts that need a crane. We run tilt-and-slide flatbed recovery trucks for cars, vans and light commercials up to 3.5 tonnes. If your job genuinely needs a rotator, ring us anyway and we'll point you to someone who has one.

Are you a local tow truck company or a national call centre?

Local and family-run. When you call a tow truck company and get a call centre, your job is usually sold on to whoever's nearest. Ours doesn't go anywhere — we take the call and we do the work.
